We struggled to figure out hiking in Austria until we bought this book. In July 2017, Austria trail info was scattered across multiple websites, which made it difficult to choose our region and trail. In addition, most websites have English translations, but the websites default back to German with every click. (especially challenging to navigate over a smartphone) Kev Reynolds' Walking in Austria made everything easier and less stressful. Totally worth the investment. Perhaps the author has a different definition for "walking", but the majority of the "walks" in this book are difficult-sounding, level 2 to 3 hikes that include scrambling, hanging on to ropes and chains, ridge trails (complete with warnings about falling off), steep climbs and descents, etc. As middle-aged, fairly fit trekkers, we were hoping for a book of walks that would get us out into the beautiful Austrian countryside without need of tons of gear or mountain-climbing experience. You know, walks. This book doesn't offer what we were looking for. I've found this to be true of most of the Ciccerone "walks" books I've read.
